WHAT GOD HAS TO OFFER YOU (part 1)

HE LOVES YOU: In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. (1John 4:9)

God's love for us is far greater that our human minds can comprehend. He allowed His Son, Jesus Christ, to come to this earth and live among us completely free from sin. Then the only man that knew no sin suffered and died on the cross of Calvary as payment for our sins.

HE DELIVERS FROM DARKNESS: God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. (1John 1:5) According to Colossians 1:13, God can deliver us from the power of darkness. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves (1John 1:8)

In the Bible, darkness represents sin and light represents righteousness (right living). We need to be completely honest and realize that we have a problem with sin. We can try to resolve to live better and that's good, but we do not have the ability within ourselves to overcome sin in our lives. Often we fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to those around us, therefore, we don't look so bad. We need to compare ourselves to God's standard. We can get an idea of God's standards of how we should live our lives from the 10 Commandments. Here are some examples. We are not to lie. Have you ever told a lie? We are not to steal. Have you ever taken anything that didn't belong to you? We are not to commit adultery. I know, you are probably thinking, "I haven't done that", however, Jesus said if anyone looks on someone with lust in their heart that it is the same as committing adultery with them. God's standards of right and wrong are much higher than ours. The Bible says that we will be judged by God's standards. In fact, the Bible says that we will all stand before God and give an account of our lives.

Maybe it's time to reevaluate our lives based on God's standard? It certainly gives you something to think about.
Your comments and questions are appreciated.

I just read your entry and I am confused. You say we have to keep the ten commandments. But the Bible says it is impossible to keep them because if you break one you have broken them all. And didn't Jesus nail the law to the tree.? I see contradictions to what I read in the Bible and what you say in your post. Not trying to be picky....just making an observation.

There is no contradiction between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Jesus said that He did not come to destroy the Law but to fulfill the Law. A person must see that they are quilty before God and have no hope within themselves to be freed from the penalty of those sins.

I agree fully that He came to fulfill the law. So if He did why do I have to? Why do I have to keep something He fulfilled? He fulfilled all of it on the cross. Another thing on your post is that it's time to re-evaluate ourselves according to God's standard. That is so true but we must ask what is God's standard? It is perfection because the Word is clear we are to be holy as He is holy. Do you think we can achieve that by trying to keep the ten commandments? The standard that God measures us by is by His Son. Not by what I do or don't do. I can only measure up in what Christ did at the cross. I can not ever meausre up to God's standards by what I do. That is a works based redemption and it is impossible to do. I measure up because I am in Him and not according to my works.

I agree there is no contradiction between the OT and the NT. The OT said a redeemer was coming to redeem the entire world and restore them back to Father God. So what did Jesus do at the cross...read Romans 5 and it will tell you plainly. He restored all to Himself at the cross.

I also agree that we have no hope in ourselves to be freed from sin. Again, the cross already did that so the penalty for the sin of mankind was paid for at the cross. As in Adam all die, so in Christ all are made alive. Note the word "all".

Heri, I agree with you the Bible clearly teaches that salvation is by grace through faith and that it is not by works. I also believe that Jesus paid for the sins of the whole world when He died on the cross. That does not however mean that everyone is going to Heaven. John 1:12 says
"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" Please check your messages.
